A thrilling journey into the heart of comedy and science.
Join James as they explore some interesting stories, some tricks and some other things they will come up with on the spot. Expect to learn something, to laugh and to find joy in the mundane. The story? We will find that as we go along. Maybe we will talk about Galois, the boy who yearned, or Newton the recluse, or even the real reason why teachers are careful with homework!
The team of this show contains no maths, and other lies and all at James Arthur Mathematics would like to graciously thank our sponsors for helping this show happen. This show was funded by the International Center for Mathematical Sciences and the Making It Fringe fund.
Last but not least, you have your centurion of a host. Like a centurion, James, can understand latin and doesn't stop moving. However, they are a mathematician, so don't expect the super human strength! They are a maths communicator based in the South West and after studying Oxford is excited to finally bring some of their well seasoned shows to stage in Edinburgh, but in mini form. From Cambridge to a vineyard in the Loire, they performed at them all, but never actually in a famous festival not known for maths. This one is gonna be fun!
Rigger of lights, coiler of cables, and shouter at broken microphones, Caitlin Smith is TSCNM's technical manager. This is her third Edinburgh Fringe, having worked on Exeter University Comedy Society's sketch shows for the last two years. As a recent biology graduate and certified plant nerd, Caitlin's really looking forward to getting her hands on a sciencey show this time around. In her spare time, she is also an audio drama creator, currently working on the show Hexpress Hotline, and is surprisingly good with an otamatone.
Greater of guests, taker of tickets, and herder of academic cats, Matilda is TSCNM's Stage Manager and Front of House. Matilda is a seasoned hospitality worker and event manager, but this is her first Edinburgh Fringe! As a current PhD student in Modern European History and art sleuth at Oxford, Matilda's really looking forward to being thrown into the deep end of the world (and hopefully history) of Maths and the other lies the show contains. In her spare time, she is the President of the Clarendon Scholars Association Council, binger of fantasty and historical dramas, creator of scrumptious cheese and charcuterie boards, and a surprisingly ruthless player of Diplomacy
